Exceptは間違って、「～を楽しみにする」という意味で使用される事がよくあります。
例えば、「来週グランドキャニオンに行く予定です。とても楽しみにしてます。」と表現したい場合、×の様に言ってしまっていませんか？

We’re going to the Grand Canyon next week. I am expecting it very much.
We’re going to the Grand Canyon next week. I’m looking forward to it very much.

本来expectは「何かが起きると予想する」という意味なので、楽しみにするなどの感情とは無関係な単語です。

I am expecting to have a great time at the company party.
–(会社のパーティを楽しむつもりです)

I expect a lot from this English course.
–(この英語コースに期待しています)

I’m expecting him any minute.
–(彼がまもなく来ると思います)

一方、look forward toは、下記のように何かを楽しみにする表現に使います。

I am looking forward to our next three-day weekend.
–(私たちの3連休を楽しみにしています)

I look forward to your presentation.
–(君のプレゼンを楽しみにしています)

場合によってlook forwardとexpectを一緒に使うこともあります。

I am looking forward to your presentation and I expect it to be good.
(君のプレゼンを楽しみにしています。いい物になると期待しているよ)
