Uniqlo Thailand works with Studio Ghibli to hold exhibition in Bangkok
Uniqlo Thailand began holding a Studio Ghibli exhibition in Bangkok on Feb. 11. It is also selling Ghibli-themed T-shirts and tote bags. It is Uniqlo Thailand’s first collaboration with the famous Japanese animation studio.
The exhibition is at the CentralWorld shopping mall in the capital. It features Totoro and the Cat Bus from the classic anime movie My Neighbor Totoro, as well as calligraphy by producer Toshio Suzuki.
The bus is large enough for visitors to climb aboard.Suzuki helped found Studio Ghibli in 1985. Also on display are photos of the Ghibli Museum in western Tokyo by Thai photographer Kanyada Prathan. The studio is publishing her work in a monthly booklet.
The commemorative T-shirts come in 12 designs — six for children and six for adults — all available only in Thailand. The exhibition is running through March 27.
Lotteria gives us chocolate burgers for Valentine’s Day in Japan.
While a lot of the big name global fast food chains tend to get a lot of attention in Japan, Lotteria is often seen as one of the underdogs, fighting to get a look-in. They know how to put up a good fight, though, with weird and wonderful promotions like this latest one for Valentine’s Day.
That’s right — Lotteria is celebrating the occasion with chocolate, which is synonymous with Valentine’s Day in Japan. The type of chocolate they’ve chosen for the task is Ghana milk chocolate, from popular brand Lotte, but in true Lotteria style, they’ll be offering it to customers in a rather unconventional way.
Limited to three Lotteria branches only — Shibuya, Harajuku, and Ikebukuro— the Valentine’s Day offer is extremely limited, as it’s only available to the first 214 customers at each store who follow the Lotteria Japan Twitter account, retweet the designated promo tweet, and show the retweet to staff.
These customers will receive a kit containing a chocolate bar and burger buns, so they can make a “Valentine Ghana Lotte Ghana Chocolate Burger“. Judging by the visuals, the burger is simple to make — all it involves is opening up the chocolate bar and stuffing it inside the Lotteria bun.
Personally, we wouldn’t be able to resist stuffing a few chips in there to make a Valentine’s Day chocolate butty, or maybe a slab of meat to experiment with the flavours. Either way, it would definitely be an unusual Valentine’s Day gift.

A Texan walks into an Irish pub and clears his voice to the crowd of drinkers. He says, “I hear you Irish are a bunch of hard drinkers. I’ll give $500 American dollars to anybody in here who can drink 10 points of Guinness back-to -back.”
The room is quiet and no one takes up the Texan’s offer. One man even leaves. Ten minutes later the same gentleman who left shows back up and taps the Texan on the shoulder, “Is your bet still good?”, asks the Irishman.
The Texan says yes and asks the bartender to line up 10 points of Guinness. Immediately the Irishman tears into all 10 of the point glasses drinking them all back-to-back. The other patrons cheers as the Texan sits in amazement.
The Texan gives the Irishman the $500 and says, “if ya don’t mind me asking, where did you go for that 10 minutes you were gone?”
The Irishman replies, “Oh… I had to go to the pub down the street to see if I could do it first.”
