Eating less often does more to improve the health and life span of rodents than simply eating less, a study said.

Researchers looking at mice on different diets found those who were fed fewer calories in a single daily feeding lived longer than mice eating the same number of calories distributed throughout the day.

The study, published in Nature Metabolism, showed mice who are only once a day also demonstrated improved metabolism.

Mice on a low-calorie diet who ate throughout the day meanwhile did not show benefits such as better blood sugar control, improved strength in old age and longer life.

断食でネズミの寿命が改善

単に食べる量を減らすよりも、食べる回数を減らしたほうが、げっ歯類の健康状態と寿命は向上したと、ある研究が発表した。

食事の異なるマウスを観察していた研究者は、１日１回のえさやりでカロリーの少ないえさを与えられた者は、終日与えられる同じカロリー数のえさを食べるマウスよりも長生きしたことを発見した。

『ネイチャー・メタボリズム』に掲載されたこの研究は、１日に１回だけ食事をしていたマウスは、代謝が向上することも示した。

一方、低カロリーの食事を一日中食べていたマウスは、血糖値の抑制の改善や老齢期における強度の向上、寿命の伸びといった健康効果を示さなかった。

A Japanese startup backed by soccer player Keisuke Honda hopes to persuade wealthy consumers to swap their supercar for a 77.7 million yen hoverbike that went on sale.

The XTurismo Limiter Edition from Tokyo-based drone startup ALI Technologies is equipped with a conventional engine and four battery-powered motors and promises to fly for 40 minutes at up to 100 kilometers per hour.

“Until now the choice has been to move on the ground or at scale in the sky. We hope to offer a new method of movement,” Chief Executive Daisuke Katano said.

The black-and-red hoverbike consists of a motorcycle-like body on top of propellers.

サッカー選手の本多圭佑氏が後援する日本のスタートアップ企業が、ホバーバイクを7700万円で販売開始する。富裕層客のスーパーカー需要の取り入れに期待する。

東京に拠点を置くALIテクノロジーズのXTurismo Limited Editionは、従来のエンジンとバッテリー稼働の4つのモーターを装備しており、最高速度は時速100キロで４０分間飛行できるという。

「これまでは地上を移動するか、空中を大勢で移動するかの選択しかなかった。わたしたちは新しい移動手段を提供することを望んでいる。」と、CEOの片野大輔氏は話した。

黒と赤を基調としたホバーバイクは、プロペラの上にバイクのボディーが乗っかったかたちである。

	Hit the ground running「（新しいことに）すぐに全力で取り組む」
We really need to hit the ground running with this idea and get our product on the shelves before someone else does.
	誰かにやられる前に、本気でこのアイデアに全力で取り組んで商品を販売するべきだよ。
	「hit the ground running」は少しイメージしずらいですが、車のタイヤがフル回転している状態で地面に着く情景を思い浮かべると分かりやすいかもしれません。タイヤが回転している状態で車を地面につけると急発進するように、「ビジネスで何かに取り掛かる際に、はじめから全力で取り組む」という意味でよく使われます。「hit the ground」単体で使われると「地面に落ちる、墜落する」の意味があります。

	keep an eye on the ball「集中する、油断しない」
When it comes to business negotiations, you really need to keep an eye on the ball.
	「ビジネス交渉においては、油断してはならない。」
	「keep an eye on the ball」は直訳すると「ボールから目を離さない」の意味で、スポーツで常にボールに集中している様子が起源で、ビジネスでも使われるようになりました。野球やアメリカンフットボールなど球技が非常に盛んなアメリカでは特によく耳にするフレーズです。他にも「drop the ball（へまをする）」、「get the ball rolling （活動などを始める）」、「the ball is in your court（あなた次第です/あなたの番です）」など、スポーツを期限とするフレーズはたくさんあります。

	touch base「連絡を取る、連絡する」
Hi Sarah, I just wanted to touch base with you to see if we’re still scheduled to complete the first phase of the project by next Monday.
	「サラ、ちょっと確認したいだけなんだけど、プロジェクトの第一段階は来週の月曜日に完了のスケジュールでいいんだよね。」
	「touch base (with…)」は「(…と)連絡を取る」の意味で、「じっくり座って話し合う」というよりも「簡単な情報交換をする/あいさつをする」ニュアンスで使われ、特にメール文で頻出の表現です。この表現もまたスポーツ（野球）から生まれたフレーズです。

Lazy Buddy

In a rural area a farmer was tending to his horse named Buddy, and along came a traveler who desperately needed the farmer’s help.

The traveler had lost control of his vehicle and ran it off into a ditch.

The traveler asked the farmer if his horse could somehow pull the vehicle out of the ditch for him and told the farmer that the vehicle was small.

The farmer said he would come, bring his horse, and take a look, but could not promise he could help if his horse might be injured in some way from attempting to pull the vehicle out of the ditch.

The farmer did see that the traveler was correct and that the vehicle was small, so the farmer took a rope and fixed it so that his horse, Buddy, would be able to pull the vehicle out of the ditch.

The farmer then said,
“Pull, Casey, Pull,” but the horse would not budge.

The farmer then said,
“Pull, Bailey, Pull,” but the horse would not budge again.

The farmer then said,
“Pull, Mandy, Pull,” and again the horse would not move.

The farmer then said,
“Pull, Buddy, Pull,” and the horse pulled until the vehicle was out of the ditch.

The traveler was so very grateful, but asked the farmer why he called the horse by different names?

The farmer said,
“Buddy is blind, and I had to make him think he had help pulling the car out of the ditch or he would not have pulled.”

【日本語訳】　ナマケモノのバディー

ある田舎で農家がバディーという名前の馬の世話をしていました。すると農家の助けを必死に求める旅人が現れました。

その旅人は車の操作を誤り、車が溝にはまってしまいました。

その旅人は農家の人にどうにか馬に車を引っ張てもらって溝から出すことが出来ないか尋ね、自分の車は小さいと説明しました。

農家の人は、馬を連れて現場に行き確認してみるが、車を溝から引っ張り出す過程で馬がケガをするような可能性があった場合には、必ずしも助けてあげられるか分からないと言いました。

農家の人は、車は確かに小さく旅人が言っていることが正しいことを確認すると、ロープを手に取り、バディーが車を引っ張れるように結び付けました。

すると農家の人は言いました。
「引っ張れケイシー、引っ張れ」、でも馬は全く動きません。

すると農家の人は言いました。
「引っ張れベイリー、引っ張れ」、それでも馬は全く動きません。

すると農家の人は言いました。
「引っ張れマンディー、引っ張れ」、やっぱり馬は全く動きません。

すると農家の人は言いました。
「引っ張れバディー、引っ張れ」、するとバディーは車が溝から出るまで引っ張りました。

旅人は非常に感謝しましたが、農家の人になぜ違う馬の名前を呼んでいたのか聞いてみました。

農家の人は言いました。
「バディーは目が見えないんだ。他の馬も車を引っ張るのを手伝っていると思わせなかったら、こいつは引っ張ってなかっただろう。」
