Dutch King also part-time pilot

King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands has revealed that he has been moonlighting as a co-pilot with Martinair and KLM Airlines for the past 21 years.

The king said that twice a month he would ride in the cockpit fulfilling all the duties of a co-pilot aboard the Fokker 70 planes that he is licensed to fly. He says it helps him take his mind off his royal duties.

However, because the Fokkers are being phased out, his majesty will have to take a break and retrain to become a certified Boeing

enormous head 「頭でっかち」
In Hollywood, it is the age of the enormous head.

The camera is so close that the whole face can be scrutinized down to the tiniest detail.

She was scrutinizing the expression of her daughter’s face to see if she didn’t tell a lie.「彼女は娘が嘘を言っていないかどうか、注意深く表情を探っていた」のように 同義語は、examine、study、inspect、dig「調べ出す」、probe「(探り針を使うように慎重に)綿密に調べる」、comb「(櫛でとかすように)徹底的に探す/調べる」など。
 down to~は「~に至るまで」。
It’s no wonder.

no surprising. 他にも、No kidding! なお、No joke.

NEW! – Learning Western Cultures and Humors through Jokes!!

An old Native American wanted a loan for $500

The banker pulled out the loan application. “What are you going to do with the money?” he asked the Indian.

“Buy Silver, make jewelry, and sell it,” was the response.
“What have you got for collateral?”

“Don’t know collateral,” replied the Indian

“Well that’s something of value that would cover the cost of the loan. “Have you got any vehicles?”

“Yes. 1949 Chevy pickup,” replied the Indian

The banker shook his head, “How about livestock?”

“Yes, I have a horse,” replied the Indian

“How old is it?” the banker asked.

“Don’t know, has no teeth,” replied the Indian

Finally the banker decided to make the $500 loan. Several weeks later the old man was back in the bank. He pulled out a roll of bills, “Here to pay.” he said. He then handed the banker the money to pay his loan off.

“What are you going to do with the rest of that money?” the banker asked.

“Put in hogan”, replied the Indian

“Why don’t you deposit it in my bank,” the banker asked.

“Don’t know deposit,” replied the Indian

“You put the money in our bank and we take care of it for you. Whenever you want to use it, you can withdraw it.”

The old Indian leaned across the desk and asks the banker… “What you got for collateral?”
